How It Works

Each car starts as a sheet of pre-cut foamboard pieces. Following the booklet, you assemble the racer's body, mount the wheels on their rods, and fit the wind-up mechanism that drives the rear axle. Winding the key twists a spring inside the mechanism, storing elastic potential energy — and when you set the car down and let go, that spring unwinds, spinning the axle and converting the stored energy into motion. The tighter the wind, the more energy stored, the faster and farther your racer goes. Build both cars and every race becomes a fair-and-square engineering duel.
