Diesel engines were created based off a scientific law known as compression ignition. Rapid compression of a gas will increase its pressure and temperature at the same time. If the compression is done quickly enough, the temperature of the gas can become several times that of its surroundings, becoming hot enough to ignite tinder or other flammable substances. This fire syringe shows how this principle works. Simply put a small piece of cotton into the tube using the hole on the tube's cover. Then quickly press down on the handle to suddenly compress the air in the tube. When applied properly, the cotton will begin to burn. The air in the cylinder will act both a source of heat and as an oxidizer for the cotton when properly compressed.
Size of syringe is approximately 11.5 inches long when handle is fully extended.
