  It does what you want, but it may take some coaxing

In general, I am quite pleased with this unit. Of the optical and rendering systems, my only significant want would be to be able to turn off the automatic color balance function after imaging a standard gray card. Mechanically, the system is crude but eventually effective. The zoom control in the barrel is sticky and has a lot of backlash. One eventually uses the fine vertical adjustment to get the best focus. The coarse vertical adjustment consists of a set screw to anchor the mount at a selected height. The imaging platform has very good sensitivity, and good images can be had with the LED downlight at unexpectedly low levels. The focal range of the unit can be extended by placing it on a box or stack of books and swiveling the mount around so that it can focus on something placed on the table below. A weight on the base will be needed. The battery management system isn't particularly effective, and I have taken to charging the 18650 in an external charger. I leave the unit on external power while changing the battery, to keep the date and time and other settings. The clock on my unit loses about 1.2 seconds per day. Over all: I'm glad I bought it.
