Trictenotomidae is a family of beetles. Beetles are the group of insects with the largest number of known species in the world--over 350,000 species are thought to exist today. Trictenotomids are large and striking beetles, but very little is known about them. They look very similar to stag beetles, and live in damp forests in tropical and sub-tropical areas, often found under bark on trees. This is a superb sample of a trictenotomid beetle encased in an acryclic block. Used as a slide under a microscope or as an insect specimen, this makes a fantastic addition to any science classroom.
